Preface This book is designed to be used by the students of midwifery at the universities in Iran. The main objective of the text is to help midwifery students develop an ability to handle the kind of written and spoken English they will encounter during the pursuit of their academic education, The book is intended to fulfil the requirements of a two-credit course of ESP. The students taking the course are required to have passed some general/academic English courses, being able to read and understand English texts termed as high intermediate to advanced. The book provides an opportunity for the students to develop their reading skills through different exercised on subjects accompanying the text. The book also includes some exercises on midwifery terminology, which provides the students with the basic prefixes, stems and suffixes necessary for midwifery students to promote بوک طبtheir knowledge of medical terminology in addition to necessary terminology very common in midwifery. Moreover, the pictures used in each unit are either taken from the Internet sites and referenced or designed by the authors. The materials presented have already been piloted in real بوک طبcourses and have undergone several revisions and modifications. However, this is by no means to say that the book is free from defects. Readers’ advice on any aspect of the book will thus be appreciated.
